i’m a big fan of projects that use up scraps that are also, well, something i’ll actually use! i designed this bag shortly after a big move required me to abandon much of my fabric stash. in a new place with only my most favorite scraps i was determined to transform them into something. a quilt felt too big and ambitious and far away so i made many quick and small patchwork “sketches” to get out my ideas. with help from a dear friend and bag-aficionado i figured out how to turn these “sketches” into small drawstring bags. making these little bags helped me feel a little more at home in a new place and I hope it brings you something too.
while you can purchase new fabric for this project i recommend digging into your stash and breathing new life into those forgotten-about-favorites. this size bag is perfect for a sock project, for carrying around your favorite patches, threads or any other treasured items.
if making a bag or new patchwork experiments seem daunting to you, you may want to make a practice bag out of muslin, an old sheet, or something less precious before you cut into your favorite textiles.
